Jillian Bice Artist Statement
"Having spent my life on the beautiful, wild shores of West Vancouver and Galiano Island, my paintings are naturally inspired by the raw beauty of the West Coast, bringing wildflowers, wind, and vibrant colour to life on the canvas. My art is a celebration of joy, movement, and uplifting emotion. In my everyday life I experience the world through synesthesia, seeing numbers, days of the week, and sometimes people, places, and events as colours and textures. This unique perspective adds a rich layer of emotion and depth to my art, offering viewers a glimpse into my colourful inner world. Music is also an integral part of my practice, fuelling the energy and emotion that I channel into my work. Painting daily in my home studio or outdoors in the fresh air, I approach each piece with spontaneity, allowing creativity to flow naturally. Shaped by decades of experimenting with techniques and tools, my pieces are defined by a vibrant palette, gestural movement, textured layers, and a whimsical touch. As an artist, my goal is always to evoke joy and connection. The happiness my art brings to myself and others fuels my passion and drives me to continue exploring and growing."
